Join us for Hospice Care Week 2020 from 5-11 October 2020; “This is what it takes to provide hospice care”
Val Stangoe, St Mary’s Chief Exec: “Compassionate care for people who are living with advancing illness, those who are dying and those who are bereaved is incredibly important. Most people already know about hospice beds and Hospice Care Week gives us a chance to share beyond that to show a little more of “what it takes” to make sure we’re there for our community when it matters most.”
During the week we’ll share what our teams and supporters think hospice care means; the many ways our supporters help keep us going including a celebration of the work of our shops; and a little of the work we do.
We want to thank you for all your support over these past months. Your unwavering support throughout this time has meant we could continue to be there when it matters most for those who need us.
We are starting this week with a transparent look at our finances in this difficult COVID year and we would love you to tell us what you think after watching our video.
You will see from the video that although our care is free to receive, it’s not free to provide. The government only provides 18% of our total running costs. And with COVID the pressure on generating our income has become more critical than ever before.
It takes over 100 staff, more than 300 volunteers, and £3.5m a year for St Mary’s Hospice to keep going. There are many ways in which you can support us and ensure that we’ll always be here for people who really need us. Signing up to our regular giving is one way to do something amazing for local people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families, starting from £2 a month. Your support – in whatever way you can – means the world to us.
Thank you for being part of ‘what it takes’ for St Mary’s Hospice
