We are excited to share that St Mary’s Walk to Remember is back on Friday 5th July in our anniversary year! The Walk to Remember event is open to everyone aged 8 and up and is a ten mile fundraising walk that starts at Ulverston Leisure Centre at 8pm and finishes at Furness Academy. The event welcomes over seven hundred hospice supporters.
Mel Dixon, St Mary’s Events and Challenges Lead: “We are excited to be back with one of our best loved events. Our Walk to Remember brings our community together in a unique and special way to remember loved ones while raising vital funds for the hospice. Whether you consider yourself a seasoned Walker or are taking part for the very first time, the Walk to Remember is an unmissable, inspiring and a truly unforgettable experience. Each amazing individual walks for their own reasons so whether you are remembering a loved one or walking simply because you believe in St Mary’s, every step will make a difference.”
Last year the Walk to Remember generated over an incredible £48,000 for the popular local charity. St Mary’s provides free care and support for our patients, their families and carers within the hospice, at home or in a community setting with the launch of the new Living Well Centre in Barrow. Though St Mary’s care and services are free of charge to the community, they are not free to provide and that’s where St Mary’s needs our supporters and key events like the Walk to generate vital funds.
Supporters can register for this year’s walk here on our website and follow us on facebook, twitter and Instagram for the latest updates. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for 8 – 16yr olds, with adults pledging a minimum sponsorship of £30. And with a special early bird offer of £7.50 for those signing up to the date before 20th April.
Mel Dixon, St Mary’s Events and Challenges Lead: “Once again we promise an electric atmosphere on the evening, with even more new twists! Thank you to Charnleys for being a big part of this exciting activity and providing a much needed stop off point. So be part of something very special don’t delay, sign up today!”
The walk is sponsored by leading offshore wind farm developer Ørsted, which operates four projects, off the coast of Cumbria, including the Walney Extension which is the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
Steve Clarke, Head of Regional Support at Ørsted, said: “We are very proud to be sponsoring the Walk to Remember, as the event means so much to many people across the community, including members of our team in Barrow. St Mary’s Hospice provides much needed care and support for a great many people in the community. We hope that this year proves to be even more successful in raising vital funds to allow them to continue their great work.”
