St Mary’s In Patient Unit beds re-opening w/c 13th April!
Brilliant news: we have been working with the other organisations in our locality, making decisions about the best use of resources in these next few weeks. St Mary’s will now be re-opening four of our In Patient Unit beds on Monday 13th April – hooray! Our beds will predominantly be used for patients who need in-patient palliative and end of life care, in the same way as before.
We are only opening four beds – our unit has eight individual rooms – as a lot of the need will be within our community. Therefore, alongside the re-opening of these beds, and as long as staffing allows, from w/c 13th April we will aim to:
• Maintain 2 day-time Hospice At Home teams
• Start an overnight Hospice At Home team to support the overnight Community Nursing service
• Maintain up to 6 Night Sits per week if possible
Through doing this we will still be able to support patients and families in the community as well as provide beds for those that need them most. We are in a really good position given that all the nurses and Health Care Assistants are able to work across Hospice At Home and IPU. As part of this our new doctors will be starting next week.
Thank you to everyone at St Mary’s and across our community and beyond who have come together and made this happen, so we can continue to serve our community in the best possible way.
