Here at St. Mary’s Hospice, we have a wide variety of roles across a range of clinical and non-clinical professions.
Clinical Roles
We offer lots of opportunities across our clinical services including roles as Nurses, Doctors, Health Care Assistants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Family & Bereavement Support Workers, Complementary Therapists and Assistant Practitioners, working within our purpose built 9 bed in-patient unit, with our Hospice at Home team or in our Living Well Sessions.
We boast excellent working conditions at the hospice with ratios of staff to patients much higher than in the NHS. We have a lovely welcoming environment where clinical staff can really make a difference to patients and their families.
Non-Clinical Roles
Our team at St. Mary’s is made up of an array of different roles including Administration Staff, Housekeepers, Finance staff, Chefs, Kitchen & Café staff, Volunteer department staff, Retail staff and Fundraisers.
They provide invaluable support and keep the Hospice running smoothly. We look for people who want to make a difference and we value personal attributes as well skills and abilities.

Salary – Although we don’t have a graded salary system we do offer a competitive salary for the local area.
Holidays – Employees enjoy a holiday entitlement of 33 days a year (including bank holidays) 35 days for those working flexible hours with pro-rata holiday entitlement for part-time employees.
Pension – We offer a pension scheme for all eligible staff.
Employees that are existing members of the NHS Pension scheme are able to continue their contributions, providing they meet the qualifying criteria.
Life Assurance Cover – Eligible employees are provided with a Death in Service benefit equivalent of 2 years annual salary.
Health and Wellbeing – The hospice uses the Occupational Health Service at FGH to support employees in the workplace, staff also have the opportunity to engage with in-house well-being classes.
Education, Training & Professional Development – St Mary’s hospice is committed to the continued development and training of staff and our in-house Education Team can provide training for our employees. Staff can also access professional development training through our links with the local College and University.
Study Leave – Hospice employees are entitled to periods of study leave, where study is related to their job role or otherwise of value to the hospice.
Parking – Free car parking is available on site, however most staff choose to park in the surrounding area to make the car park more accessible for patients, families and visitors of the Hospice and Orangery Café.
Local Events – We encourage all employees to attend fundraising events and there are plenty of opportunities to engage in local events held in aid of the hospice.
Sunflower Days – We offer staff an opportunity to work a day in a different role, this is a fantastic chance to spend time in a different department and to gain an insight into how each role fits together to form one big St Mary’s family.
Orangery Café – Employees benefit from a 15% discount on meals in our wonderful newly refurbished Orangery Café rated 5 stars by The Mail. Food Critic Louise Allonby said “I can’t speak highly enough of the Orangery. It’s easily one of the best cafes in the area, supporting one of the very best causes. If you haven’t already been, I urge you to get yourself there!”
This is a real must when visiting the Hospice and we encourage anyone who is thinking of working with us to visit the café to get a feel for the hospice and soak up the warm, friendly atmosphere whilst enjoying a slice of cake!
