Players from the Club, the Community Trust and the Academy played against members from Barrow and District Junior League from 3pm on Saturday 14th to Sunday 15th May in an epic 24 hour match! With over a fantastic £4,900 netted, which is being split evenly between St Mary’s Hospice and funds to improve football facilities on Schneider Road.
Val Stangoe, Chief Exec, St Mary’s Hospice “We were overwhelmed by the number of people taking part and supporting, we are incredibly grateful for every pound donated. I was amazed at the turnout, support, energy and talent of the players.
It’s been a really hot couple of days and that can be seen in the guys playing. They’ve each done a range of hours with some doing up to 15!! Heat, thirst and blisters have taken their toll but I’m told no casualties! Thank you to everyone involved. We hope you can all rest up now!”
Some of those who were active on the day included Yasmin, who gave birth just 2 and a half weeks ago, and Harry who was one of the youngest on the pitch and still managed to score a goal!
“We’re hugely grateful to everyone involved. Thanks to our community St Mary’s Hospice can continue to be here with expert care and compassion so those affected by advancing illness have comfort, choice and dignity across our local area.”
