St Mary’s Hospice is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all those we care for and support. We recognise our responsibility under The Care Act 2014 to promote safe practice and to work to protect all from harm.
We work together to encourage a culture which embraces diversity and respects the rights of children, young people and adults. We support the right of all to be from abuse and to be treated with respect and dignity.
The following 6 principles from The Care Act (2014) underpin our safeguarding practice:
- Empowerment: people being supported and encouraged to make their own decisions and give informed consent
- Prevention: it is better to take action before harm occurs
- Proportionality: the least intrusive response appropriate to the risk presented
- Protection: support and representation for those in greatest need
- Partnership: local solutions through services working with their communities – communities have a part to play in preventing, detecting and reporting neglect and abuse
- Accountability: accountability and transparency in safeguarding practice
Our Safeguarding policies and procedures ensure that robust systems are in place and set out the framework within which all employees and volunteers of the organisation are required to work to keep children, young people and adults safe.
The hospice Safeguarding Lead is Jo Blake, Head of Clinical Care and Education.
