In light of yesterday’s news of death of the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we’ve given careful consideration to our plans for Walk to Remember, which is due to take place this evening.
Our Walk to Remember is an event at which people from across our region come together to remember those who are no longer with us. Yes, it raises vital funds for us, which we use to provide Hospice care. Much more importantly, however, it provides an opportunity for us to join together, united in love, to honour and celebrate the lives of loved ones lost.
Had this been any other fundraising event we would have cancelled or postponed. Our view is that Walk to Remember is that such an important outlet for us to share in our grief that, perhaps, it has never been more necessary for it to go ahead than at a time of national mourning.
So, with the support of our senior management team and trustees, we have decided the walk will go ahead, with some minor amendments to the program to pay tribute to Her Majesty.
If you’ve registered, we hope you’ll still join us.
We’d also like to remind our community that our Family and Bereavement Support team is on hand, now as always, should you need support.
Many people will acutely feel the loss of The Queen and, even for those who are not monarchists, the media coverage of such a significant death can evoke memories of more personal losses.
You can self-refer to our support team, and the service is available to everyone over the age of 18 across Furness and South Cumbria. The person you’ve lost doesn’t have to have had any connection to the Hospice.
