I’m made to feel part of the hospice not just a volunteer, I have made so many friends.

I love showing off the hospice and am very proud of St Mary’s and to be part of such a caring, professional team

I felt at the time and feel now that I am held in the palm of friends who care.

The person centred care is the most special thing for us as a family.

The family support showed me around the hospice as I didn’t know what to expect. I was thinking it would be like hospital, it was more like home, the rooms are lovely, clean and have great views.

Having lost members of my own family I knew what people were going through and wanted to help people who are on their own.

It’s changed my perception of what a hospice does, and why it is so important, forever.

My time spent volunteering on the unit has left me with a real insight into healthcare and inspired me to apply for Adult Nursing at university.

Until you experience St Mary’s you can never appreciate how perfect the place and people are. To me they will always be “PERFECT ANGELS”

St Marys is personally special to me as I think end of life care is equally as important as any other care. It’s the best end of life care.

We wanted to give something back to St Mary’s as they have done so much to help our local community.

If I were to need care then I would come to this hospice as it has a lovely atmosphere and I’m sure the chef already knows my order!

Gerry was certainly at peace here. Here everything’s done for you, you are the most important thing. The whole person is considered, it’s about what is unique to that person. It’s almost like an extension of your home.

My time on the Living Well course gave me the strength to start the healing process, it equipped me with the tools I needed to aid my recovery

I had always felt I wanted to ‘give something back’ so applied to become a volunteer at St Mary’s Hospice.

There is a truly peaceful atmosphere that is so evident when walking through the door and an incredible mixture of love, humour and yes at times sadness all mixed together.

I’m very thankful to the hospice for letting me work to the best of my ability, I’m given the knowledge, time and equipment to make a difference.

When you’re in a hospice it’s never a case of just ‘getting someone else to do it when they have a moment free’, no-one ever has a moment free. There’s never a boring day. I love it.
