P/T Hospice Medical Officer Vacancy
Need a new clinical challenge?
Enjoy managing complex cases?
Want to work in a specialised team?
We are looking to appoint a 4th Medical Officer to work part-time on the 9-bedded Inpatient Unit and to provide some medical input for our Day Therapies and Hospice@Home team. The medical team comprises the Medical Director (Dr Helen Clayson) and 4 Medical Officers as part of a specialised multi-disciplinary team. The Medical Officer admits patients to the inpatient unit, supervises their treatment, and provides advice and support to other members of the hospice team and community staff. The duties involve working a low-intensity rota – 1 in 4 weeks on duty - which provides for continuity of patient care and increases job satisfaction. The post is feasible for GPs who are able to accommodate a daily ward round at the hospice during each duty week, willing to attend a weekly lunchtime meeting, and able to attend occasional evening meetings.
The post provides broad experience in all aspects of palliative care and funding for further training in palliative medicine as well as the opportunity to teach medical students. Previous and current post-holders value the opportunity to practise holistic patient-centred medicine in an environment that supports excellent clinical care alongside consideration for patients’ families and friends.
Please contact the Medical Director, Dr Helen Clayson, for an informal discussion.
