Barrow AFC players are the talk of the town, not only because of their impending game against Stevenage Borough at Wembley but because their single “All Together Now for Barrow AFC” has gone to press ahead of its release on Saturday 1st May just a week before their FA Trophy final at Wembley on 8th May.The single, which is now available to pre-order at www.thebay.co.uk is their own version of The Farm’s “All Together Now” and was recorded at Radio Station The Bay on 16th April. All profits are going to St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston.

The first play of the song was on The Bay Breakfast Show with Danny Matthews on Thursday 22nd April, and the response has been phenomenal. Danny said: “The Lads were such good fun and professional when they came into THE BAY last Week to record the track and I couldn't wait to get the final mix back and put it straight on air so the whole of North Lancashire & Cumbria could hear it. The response has been overwhelming and it's great that people not just from Barrow but all across the area are behind them.”
Passions are running high about the song and of course the forthcoming Wembley game, so much so that there is a now an independent Facebook campaign to get the song into the Top 40! The campaign has so far attracted nearly 800 members and is growing daily.
It is hoped the limited release CD single, which has been kindly sponsored by Furness Heating Components in Barrow, will reach its fundraising target of £15,000 for St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston. Furness Heating Components Director, Steve Knott, said: “We are proud to have been a sponsor of Barrow AFC for many years, and are thrilled to be involved with “All together now for Barrow AFC”. We all wish the boys the very best of luck at Wembley”.
St Mary’s Hospice, which opened in 1989, is the dedicated provider in South Cumbria of comprehensive specialised supportive and palliative care for people with life limiting conditions. Facilities are available to all adults who are facing the end of life and to their families, carers and the bereaved either as inpatients, through day clinics and therapy sessions and increasingly at home.
Care is provided free of charge but costs are high as Hospice Funding & Operations Manager Zoe Guest Explained: “It costs approximately £2.4 million for St Mary’s to provide all of its services each year and of that we need to raise £2 million. The help we receive from the local community is very special and we are extremely grateful to Barrow AFC and The Bay for donating the profits from the sale of All Together Now for Barrow AFC to our charity. We would like to take this opportunity to wish the boys the best of luck on the 8th May and to thank them for all their support throughout the year. It is greatly appreciated”.
Barrow AFC’s Manager, Dave Bayliss, accompanied the team on their recording day and says it was a great bit of light relief ahead of the big game: “I don’t think any of the lads will be making a career out of singing, but it was a really enjoyable day and took their minds off the pressure of the big games ahead”. Dave has also been bowled over by the support fans have given to the recording: “It’s a real boost to the boys to know that there are so many fans behind them, and it’s great to be raising funds for St Mary’s Hospice at the same time. Wembley is going to be a fantastic experience and we are really looking forward to it”.
